Enhanced Access Service
GP Practice Opening Hours
Access to GP Appointments is Improving. GP practices in Bassetlaw are normally open from 8.00am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. Some practices already open earlier or later than that on some days and may also provide services on a Saturday. They will continue to offer this to their patients.
Patients in Bassetlaw now have access to some extra GP & Nurse appointments, during the mornings (7:30am – 8am) and evenings (6.30pm – 8pm) and at weekends.
Bassetlaw GP practices are working in partnership to deliver some of these evening and weekend appointments so you may be offered an appointment at a different surgery to your normal one. To access any of these appointments you should call your normal GP practice who can arrange it for you.
How it works
The Retford and local village GP practices have joined together to provide evening and weekend extended access. Three sites will host the extended access across the week. ANY PATIENT can book any of the appointments. Book in by contacting your own practice. To improve access to GP services the extended access appointments will be delivered by a variety of clinical staff i.e. GP’s, advanced nurse practitioners, practice nurses, health care assistants and other community staff. The aim is for patients to experience the same level of care, even though they may attend a different surgery and see different healthcare professionals.
To book an appointment please contact the Surgery.
Chaperone
- If the doctor or nurse feels a chaperone is necessary, the presence of a chaperone will be offered to you and recorded on your medical records.
- If you require a chaperone during your consultation, please mention this at the time of booking your appointment.
Home visits
If you are housebound and need an appointment, we will do a home visit. We will phone you first to understand what you need.
To request a home visit, it’s helpful if you phone the practice as soon after 8am as possible.
Surgery Blood Pressure Machine

If you require a blood pressure reading, you no longer need to book an appointment with a doctor or nurse. You can now take your own blood pressure reading using our easy-to-use blood pressure machine.
To use this please ask at reception – no appointment is required. We can provide help if needed, please let the receptionist know who will arrange a member of staff to assist you. The blood pressure machine is available to use during our opening times.
